Patriot Week happens every year from September 11 to September 17 (Constitution Day), and Learning by Hearings was busy celebrating all week! On Monday, we attended the Racial Equality Forum co-hosted by the Wayne State Student Senate, Patriot Week, Center for Civic Engagement, Jewish Bar Association, and the Jewish Law Student Association of Michigan. We heard from speakers Dr. Brad Roth, the Honorable Michael Warren, Dr. Ronald Brown, Dr. Howard Lupovitch, Dr. Aman Mcleod, Dr. Angel McKissic, and Dr. Marjorie Sarbaugh-Thompson.
To celebrate Constitution Day, we welcomed over 100 Detroit Public Schools students to Wayne State with our friends from the Detroit Historical Museum to hear from the Honorable Judge David Braxton and his son David Braxton, Jr. Then, students heard about the story of Ossian Sweet and participated in a voting simulation from the Michigan Center for Civic Education. Finally, they toured the Detroit Historical Museum and headed out.
After Constitution Day, we headed up to Traverse City to attend the fall conference of the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators. We presented on our material and spent some time with superintendents from all over Michigan.
