We are proud to present Professor Claire Leavitt, winner of our 2025 Award for Excellence in Oversight Research, as she shares insights from her paper: “I’ll be the Oversight”: Lessons from the (First) Trump Era.
Professor Leavitt’s paper draws on congressional hearing and report data to explore oversight patterns and executive cooperation during contrasting presidential administrations. By comparing the Trump and Obama eras, the study provides valuable context for understanding the health of legislative oversight and the resilience of checks and balances.
Zack Schram, National Security and Investigations Attorney and former Chief Counsel of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, served as discussant for this fascinating presentation.
